LYSOBACTER GUMMOSUS

Class: Gamma Proteobacteria
Genus: Lysobacter
Species: Lysobacter gummosus
Description: Short rods, 0.4 by 2.0 μm, which glide in a series of short jerks; the cells are too short to flex.On CCA, 5-day-old colonies are pale yellowish-gray and circular with a smooth surface and entire edge; pulvinate; translucent; no water-soluble pigment is produced; gummy. On SAA,5-day-old colonies are pale yellowish-gray and circular with a smooth surface and entire edge; pulvinate; opaque; no water-soluble pigment is produced; very gummy. On PCA, 5-day-old colonies are yellow-gray and circular with a smooth surface and entire edge; pulvinate;opaque; no water-soluble pigment is produced; very gummy. Older cultures are intensely gummy and do not produce a water-soluble pigment. In very old cultures, the viscosity of the colony may decrease dramatically, and viable cells can still be recovered from this thin slime.
