Medicinal Properties Relaxant, moderately stimulant. Flowers: tonic, aphrodisiac, anthelmintic. Leaves: emetic. Seeds: diuretic, expectorant.
Medicinal Use Flowers: cures "kapha" and "vata" skin diseases, itching, ulcers, leprosy, hysteria, fever, biliousness, asthma, burning sensation, in scorpion sting and snake bite, emmenagogue, lessen inflammation, piles, opthalmia, kidney diseases. Leaves: used in lumber pain. Seeds: useful in bronchial laryngeal, pulmonary affections, cough and colds. Roots: stregthens teeth, cures toothache.

DescriptionA variable, erect, often unbranched, fast growing, annual herb. Stem: 0.7-3.5m tall, hirsute. Leaves: alternate, ovate, long-petioled, lamina with 3 main veins, 10-30cm long, apex acute or acuminate; lower leaves opposite and cordate, flowering head terminal on main stem. Flowers: capitula upto 15 cm across, stalk soild; ray-florets yellow, ligules elliptic; disc florets numerous, brownish-yellow, pappus-awns 2, caducous. Fruits: cypsels dark-brown, sub-compressed obovate. Flowers and fruits appears during October-March.
