Medicinal Properties Aphrodisiac, anthelmintic; Bark: antipyretic, astringent, antidiarrhoel, antidysenteric and bitter tonic.
Medicinal Use Particularly prescribed in malaria, cures hoarseness, applied to rheumatic swelling and used as a gargle in stomatitis, decoction used as vaginal douche in leucorrhoea.
ChemistryDeoxyandirobin, epoxyfebrinin B and its 14,15-dihydro derivative, febrinolide, methylangolensate, Beta-sitosterol, lupeol, febrifugin, myricetin, ampelopsin, naringenin and quercetin.

DescriptionA tall glabrous tree. Leaves: paripinnate, leaflets 6-12 elliptic or oblong, obtuse, base oblique; Flowers: greenish-white, borne in axillary and terminal panicles, appears in April-May; Fruits: smooth, black when ripe, septifragally 5-valved, woody, valves consisting of two plates, separating from the 5-winged axis, May-July; Seeds: numerous, winged at both ends.
