Medicinal Use Roundworm and threadworm infestation, cough, urinary retention, inflammation, pruritus, abdominal colic, fever and leucoderma. Seeds: medicine for white leprosy (leuco-derma), and other skin diseases. The seeds are hot and have sharp taste.

Regional HabitatFrequently occurs in sandy soils and wet-places. Also found in outskirts of forest areas. Distribution: Jodhpur, Bhilwara, Jaipur and Jhalawar districts of Rajasthan.
DescriptionAn annual herb grows up to 70 cm in height. Leaves: ovoid or lanceolate, acute, serrate, pubescent on both sides. Stem: robust, erect, leafy with velvety branches. leaves: alternate, 5-8 cm long, obovate, with base narrowing into the stalk. Flowers: tubular, 5-lobed, purplish in corymbose head, flower-heads are borne at the end of branches in 10-20 cm clusters. Fruits: achenes, oblong, and cylindric. Seed: pods are 4-6 cm long, 10 ribbed, oblong. Flower appears during October-January.
