Escherichia coli

E. coli is the head of the large bacterial family, Enterohemorrhagic are facultatively anaerobic Gram-negative bacteria that live in the intestinal tracts of human and animals in health and diseas. E. Coli found in soil ,water or manure has been reported in meat products, apple juice, salads, bean sprouts, raw milk, cheese, melons, lettuce and yoghurt. No toxins are produced in foods, but they are in the gut of infected people.Like a powerful Shiga toxin responsible for human illness.

Genome Information
E. coli is a Gram- Negative bacteria. Escherichia coli O145:H28 str. RM13516 chromosome ( GI:573932891) has a circular DNA chromosome of 5402276 bp The genome structure of Escherichia coli O83:H1 str. NRG 857C consists of 5,448. genes and 5,325 coding proteins, Pseudo Genes: 38, rRNAs: 22 ( 5S, 16S, 23S ),tRNAs: 98. The GC content of Escherichia coli is about 50.7% .
Food Source
cheese, milk products, raw milk, raw or rare ground beef, as well as unpasteurized apple juice or cider, uncooked fruits andburgers and meatballs) or drinking unpasteurised milk. vegetables
Pathological Factor
Escherichia coli are characterized by the production of verotoxin or Shiga toxins (Stx) .Which clincally leads to cause variety of syndrome such as Hemorrhagic Colitis, Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome fallowed by bloody and non bloody Diarrhea. Stx1 and Stx2 has been found associated with human illness, Several variants of Stx2 exist.Existed toxin plays a role in the intense inflammatory response produced by E.Coli to cause Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome. The toxin is phage encoded and its production is enhanced by iron deficiency. There are many serotypes of Stx-producing E. coli , but only those that have been clinically associated with Hemorrhagic Colitis are designated as EHEC. Of these, O157:H7 is the prototypic EHEC and most often implicated in foodborn illness worldwide. The infectious dose for O157:H7 is estimated to be 10 - 100 cells; but no information is available for other EHEC serotypes.
Disease
Majority of foodborn illness HUS cases are reported due to of Enterohemorrhagic are recognized as the primary cause of hemorrhagic colitis (HC) or bloody diarrhea Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome is a life theratning disease that affect all ages but seems to be more prevalent in children. It is charchterized by acute renal faliur and has mortality rate 0f 3-5 % or less but many survivors suffer permanent disabilities ,such as renal insuffeciency and neurological deficts. Therbocytopenic Purpa (TTP) Variant form of Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome with simlillar effect of Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome but more prevalent in adult than that of children. It also affect central nervous system therefore often follow up by fever and other nuerological disoder and also Causes : Hemorrhagic Colitis, Kidney Failure, Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome, Meningitis, Pancreatitis, Cholecystitis, Colitis, Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome, Diarrheal Diseases.Hemorrhagic colitis, kidney failure, ,
