Aeromonas hydrophila

Characteristics
Shape and Size
Rod-shaped size ranges from 0.3 to 1.0 ¼m in diameter and 1.0 to 3.5 ¼m in length.
Genome Information
Aeromonas hydrophila subsp. hydrophila ATCC 7966, Ref Seq: NC_008570.1, DNA circular, Size 4.74Mb, GC% 61.5, Protein 4119, rRNA 31, tRNA 128, Gene 4,284 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genome/1422
Food Source
ingestion or drinking of contaminated water or foods. By eating contaminated meat, dairy, shrimp, or fish.
Pathological Factor
Recently, a cytotoxic enterotoxin (Act), a heat- unstable cytotonic enterotoxin (Alt), and a heat- stable cytotonic enterotoxin (Ast) has been characterized from a diarrheal isolated of Aeromonas hydrophila. Infection with Aeromonas hydrophila can result in gastrointestinal or non-gastrointestinal complications.
Disease
gastroenteritis- rice- water diarrhea and dysenteric gastroenteritis.
Symptoms
rice- water diarrhea: mild symptoms include fever and chills, but patients who become overwhelming bacterial infection with Aeromonas hydrophila often exhibit abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Dysenteric gastroenteritis that causes loose stools filled with blood and mucus.
Affected Body Organs
Gastro-intestinal organs
