Pathological Factor
P. shigelloides has been implicated as the causative agent of both gastrointestinal and extra-intestinal infections. They produce enterotoxins in humans which passes into intestinal tracts resulting into diarrhoea.

gastroenteritis or extraintestinal infections
Symptoms
dysenteric diarrhea,abdominal pain,vomiting,nausea, chills, arthralgia, and headache.Extraintestinal infections are less common;septicaemia, meningitis, osteomyelitis, cellulitis, septic arthritis, endophthalmitis,spontaneous bacterial peritonitis, and acute cholecystitis.
