Yersinia pseudotuberculosis

Characteristics
Shape and Size
coccobacillus shaped
Genome Information
Yersinia pseudotuberculosis IP 31758, circular DNA, RefSeq NC_009708.1, Size 4.72 Mb, GC% 47.5, Protein 3,995, rRNA 22, tRNA 82, Other RNA 26, Gene 4,230, Pseudogene 97 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genome/510?genome_assembly_id=167327
Food Source
Pathological Factor
The organism possesses high virulence due to the secretion of the superantigenic exotocin YPM. YPM preferably stimulates the proliferation of CD4 T cells but some expression of CD8 does occur. Along with proliferation, YPM stimulates the overproduction of interleukin-8, increasing the inflammatory response in the host.
Disease
Gastroenteritis, mesenteric lymphadenitis
Symptoms
abdominal pain and fever, complications in the kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, and severe skin rashes, arthritis
Affected Body Organs
intestinal tract, liver, spleen, and lymph nodes and causes these tissues to become inflammed. Typical symptoms of a Y. pseudotuberculosis infection include joint or back pain, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. The O:3 strain of Y. pseudotuberculosis can cause reactive arthritis.
